Cavallino – Palazzo Ducale di Castromediano

Most of my family live in this village, located 3 km away from Lecce. I am not a fan, I prefer the villages on the sea side but I have always loved the main and biggest square where the Castle has been built.

It is a very large one and it is with no doubt the heart of the village, today like it should have been in those days.

I have always known it as the Castromediano’s Castle but if you approach you can see a sign that states Palazzo Ducale di Castromediano Limburg.

Nowadays it has anything of the original splendor, I have been there yesterday and found it neglected and in need of a restore.

In the courtyard there is a big statue, called “The Giant”, that represents Kilian of Limburg, the first of this nobles family.

This time I did not entered the Castle because I had not the time but I would also keep in mind its gallery and all the other rooms as they were
